Dance the Night Away with the Wheaton Municipal Band on July 12

The Wheaton Municipal Band presents a program of dance music on July 12, and a pre-concert dance lesson at 6:30 PM.

For “Movers and Shakers” and those that just love dance music, The Wheaton Municipal Band presents an evening of music and dance. If you have ever wanted to dance the Samba or the Cha Cha, come to Memorial Park on Thursday, July 12 at 6:30 p.m.  Back by popular demand, DeSarge Danceworld will present a pre-concert dance lesson.

Sarge, owner of DeSarge Danceworld in Naperville, charms concert goers with his passion for dance, patience, and South African accent. His high energy, infectious enthusiasm and total dedication for the art of dance are contagious.  Sarge proudly wears his “Gold” qualified status in American Ballroom and Latin dance.  He is Naperville’s “Dancing with the Stars” celebrity.  His credits include South African Rock and Roll Champion, and numerous awards as top teacher and dance competitor with the International Smooth and Rhythm, US Terpischore Association in Chicago in 2001.

At 8:00 p.m. sharp, Dr. Bruce Moss will give the downbeat to an exciting concert.  On the program is Dvorak’s “Slavonic Dances”,  an audience favorite that is fun for the musicians to play and wonderful to listen to.  This famous work led Dvorak from a rather obscure composer to one of acclaim.  The work is modeled after "Hungarian Dances" by Dvorak’s mentor, Johannes Brahms.  Filled with rich harmonies, lively folk dance rhythms and melodies, the work stirs the spirit.  In addition, Strauss waltzes from “Der Rosenkavalier” are on the program.  Plus, in a totally different artistic vent, the band will present “A Salute to the Beatles.”

In the middle of the concert, DeSarge Danceworld Dancers will demonstrate a Latin Dance to the music performed by the Wheaton Municipal Band.  Then everyone is invited up to the dance floor to show off what they learned in the pre-concert dance class.

A fun night for all, this concert is one not to be missed.  Dancing begins Thursday, July 12 at 6:30 p.m.  The concert follows at 8:00 p.m. at the Band Shell in Memorial Park.
