Summer Theatre Options: Music, Music, and More Music at Wheaton Drama

MUSICAL NOW PLAYING

On stage at Playhouse 111 through June 17 is the musical comedy, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. This musical adaptation of the popular Michael Caine and Steve Martin movie has been well received by audiences. And why not? It's a musical and it's funny!

FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES

Opening July 6 is the children's show, "Hansel and Gretel". The show has been cast and is now in rehearsals. This unique take on the classic fairy tale will be fun for all ages, featuring characters you know and a few you don't but will be glad to meet. The show includes music and dance. Such fun!

The "Hansel and Gretel" cast is: Melanie Ambrosio (Raggedy Ann); Natalie Anderson (Gingerbread Person); Tyler Berger (Gretel); Doug Buethe (Father); Susan Carr (Mother); Cameron Clark (Gingerbread Person); Leah Crandell Gingerbread Person); Alec Degnan (Sprite); Ashley Graham (Gingerbread Person); Evan Heise (Bear); Kailey Henderson (Angel); Summer Johanneson (Brontosaura); Nicole Johnson (Gingerbread Person); Alissa Kanturek (Saccharine); Brendan Noland (Hansel); Kitty Noland (Bird); Celia O'Brien (Sandwich); Fletcher Ogren (Bird); Claudia Ornacki (Gingerbread Person); Kayla Ornacki (Bird); Dylan Palmore (Bird); Debbie Roberts (Hitzabelle); Kate Roberts (Gargoyla); Rebecca Roy (Medusa); Brock Royle (Gingerbread Person); Gwen Royle (Gingerbread Person); George Zima (Sandman). 

Jim Liesz is directing, assisted by Berni Raymond. Georgia Hamilton is musical director and Barb Giblin is the choreographer. Mary Engle is the production manager. Stage management is by Amy Johnson and Jen Neidl.

Performances of Hansel and Gretel are Friday, July 6 at 7pm, Saturday, July 7 at 3pm, Sunday, July 8 at 3pm, Friday, July 13 at 7pm, Saturday, July 14 at 3pm, and Sunday, July 15 at 3pm. Tickets are $10 each or 4 tickets for $35. Visit http://www.wheatondrama.org for details.

YET MORE MUSIC!

Musical theatre fans will also want to make note of the show after Hansel and Gretel. On stage from August 17 to 19 is Broadway Ballot, a musical revue of Broadway/Off-Broadway songs. The revue includes music from such hits as The Music Man, Annie Get Your Gun, My Fair Lady, Gypsy, Kiss Me, Kate, Sweeney Todd and many others, as well as lesser-known gems such as Assassins, Stop the World, I Want to Get Off, Tintypes, Reefer Madness, Urinetown and more. A cast of 22 will perform songs ranging from "Put on a Happy Face" (Bye Bye, Birdie) to "Time Warp" (The Rocky Horror Show). At the end of the show, audience members will be give a ballot with the question, “Which of these shows would you like to see Wheaton Drama produce?”  Audiences can help guide Wheaton Drama's future musical selections and have a great time!
