DuPage only, new Tax increase rules

HB1522 could mean one of the largest tax increases ever, here in DuPage County and most people haven’t even heard of it.

IL HB1522 passed both houses and is now awaiting Governor Quinn’s signature.   If signed, it will give new authority for DuPage and Peoria counties to increase taxes/fees for storm water control.  It applies to only two counties, and the rules for each are slightly different.  If signed residents in Peoria County may choose to deny the imposition of the storm water fee by referendum vote.  In DuPage, it is up to the county board.  Here in DuPage, the citizens will have NO say in this tax increase.

It also allows the county to give individual waivers for installing green technology.  Could these waivers be handed out arbitrarily to reward friends?

This bill passed because legislators who do not represent DuPage voted for it - not one senator representing DuPage voted yes.

Please call Governor Quinn (217-782-0244) and ask him to veto HB1522.
