Springfield could take over local school boards
Potential law to centralize education power in Springfield
"Springfield could take over local school boards"
OK, not quite yet. But, in Springfield SB 2340, is being debated. It will change the law such that if a district remains on academic watch for three years, the State Superintendent of Education can remove the elected school board and establish an Independent Authority to operate the district. There is a carve out so that any district with a popluation exceeding 500,000 (Chicago) will not be subject to this.
Because of the way no-child-left-behind defines meeting state standards, many good schools are designated as not meeting standards.
