Police Share Holiday Crime Prevention Tips

Wheaton police share holiday crime prevention tips.

The Wheaton Police Department shared the following tips for crime prevention during the holidays:

Don't Drink and Drive

Driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs remains the No. 1 cause of fatal traffic crashes in Illinois and across the United States, the Wheaton Police Department wrote in a press release. Please use a designated driver, a cab or public transportation should you consume anything that may impair your ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.

Lock Up

Always lock your home, leave a light on a timer, and have a neighbor retrieve your mail when you will be away from home. Residents are welcome to complete a vacation house watch with the Wheaton Police Department when they will be away from home for more than a few days. Officers will check your home periodically. Vacation house watch requests may be filed in person at the police station or online.

Always remove valuables from the inside of your parked car and keep the car locked, no matter where it is parked.

Watch Out

Keep a watchful eye on your neighborhood. Should you hear or observe anything suspicious, call 9-1-1 immediately. You may choose to remain anonymous. Wheaton police officers will respond to anonymous reports.
