Miracle Baby Goes Home

A baby born at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove in July went home healthy with her happy mom and dad this week just in time for Christmas.

A miracle baby born 17 weeks premature left Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove Tuesday after five months in the care of its doctors and nurses.

Her mother, René Pacyna, 39, was at her baby shower in Downers Grove on July 9 when her water broke and she went into labor. She was rushed to the hospital. "I kept thinking well they're going to stop this," she said. "They're doctors. They're miracle workers. They're going to make this all go away."

But Meghan Hope was born that day weighing just 15.3 ounces. Today, doctors say she's a "medical miracle" and she's on her way home to Schaumburg for Christmas.

René and Mark said the hospital's neonatal doctors and nurses helped them through the last five months.

"God speaks through these people right here, truly," René said. "When I just, emotionally, felt like I couldn't stand one more second, they would somehow pick me up and say, 'I'll see you tomorrow.'"
