Local Runners Headed to State

Wheaton will be well represented at this year's state cross-country meet. 

The boys and girls Wheaton Warrenville South High School cross-country teams have earned a trip to state and the Warrenville West boys cross-country team will also be headed to state after the runners fared well at the Class 3A Aurora sectional this past weekend. 

The Warrenville South boys cross-country team won the sectional title. Leading the team was senior Luke Schroer, who finished in second place with a time of 15:20 followed not far behind by Nolan McKenna, who finished in third place with a time of 15:29, according to the IHSA results page. 

Other Warrenville South runners who will be headed to state for the boys team include: junior Kyle Cepeda, who finished in fifth place with a time of 15:37; senior David Dillon, who finished in seventh place with a time of 15:42; junior Gabe Lightbody, who finished in 41st place with a time of 16:20; junior Drew Andersen, who finished in 81st place with a time of 16:56; and senior David Santana, who finished in 121st place with a time of 19:01, according to the IHSA results page. 

The Warrneville South girls cross country team came in fourth place at the sectional meet. They were led by freshman Allison McGrath who finished in fifth place with a time of 18:14. 

Other Warrenville South runners who will be headed to the state meet include: freshman Sara Atkins who finished in 17th place at the sectional with a time of 18:48; sophomore Mary Erdman, 23rd place with a time of 19:10; sophomore Emma Schroer, 34th place with a time of 19:26; sophomore Kendall Laveen, 36th place with a time of 19:27; junior Natalia Boettcher , 40th place with a time of 19:34; and junior Allison Strong, 54th place with a time of 19:48, according to the IHSA results page.

The Wheaton North High School boys cross-country team also had an impressive at the sectional meet, placing in third place and earning a trip to state. 

Senior Joseph Emmanuel came in first place at the sectional meet with a time of 15:17. 

The following runners will also be competing at state for Wheaton North: senior Wes Noyes, who finished in 14th place with a time of 15:51; junior Kilty Askin, who finished in 37th place with a time of 16:19; senior Chris Stopka, who finished in 45th place with a time of 16:23; junior Danny Steeno, who finished in 47th place with a time of 16:24; sophomore Alex Frank, who finished in 79th place with a time of 16:55; and sophomore Ryan Kocher, who finished in 104th place with a time of 17:27, according to the IHSA results page.

The state boys and girls cross-country meet will be held on Nov. 9 at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
