Front Street to Close for an Hour During Saturday’s Chili Cook Off

Hourlong closure will start at 2:45 p.m. between Hale and North Main streets.

The city will close Front Street between Hale and North Main streets for an hour Saturday afternoon for the Downtown Wheaton Association’s fifth annual Chili Cook Off.


The closure begins at 2:45 p.m. Saturday and is expected to last an hour, according to the city.


The fifth annual Chili Cook Off runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., with 12 downtown restaurants and eateries participating in what the Downtown Wheaton Association bills as a friendly competition.

Buy tickets to the cook off and you can sample each restaurant’s unique chili recipe and then vote for your favorite. Prices are $15 for adults and $7 for children 10 and younger. You may purchase tickets from the competing restaurants.

Live music by the Saracens is planned at Martin Memorial Plaza, and a Waiter’s Race also is planned on Front Street at 3 p.m.
