Wheaton Father Speaks on Behalf of Son, 6, With Neurological Condition

Derek Ladgenski will speak at the 27th Annual Golf Invitational: Fore the Kids, which will be held on June 16 at Edgewood Valley Country Club in LaGrange, and raises funds for Easter Seals DuPage & Fox Valley.

A Wheaton father will speak on behalf of his 6-year-old son who suffers from a neurological condition and cannot communicate verbally during a benefit golf invitational held the day after Father's Day.

The 27th Annual Golf Invitational: Fore the Kids raises funds for Easter Seals DuPage & Fox Valley — a non-profit organization that has meant the world for one local family and their son, Quinn Ladgenski.

Quinn's mother, Sarah, realized at 4 months old, Quinn's eyes didn’t look right, according to a Easter Seals DuPage & Fox Valley press release. He also wasn’t developing at the same pace as his twin sister, Emma.

We were devastated,” Sarah said.

Quinn may have suffered a stroke in utero. The family turned to Easter Seals DuPage & Fox Valley for help.

“They gave us hope,” Sarah says. “They said the brain is an amazing thing — that the right therapy could make a difference.”

Since then, Quinn has received physical, occupational, speech, and nutrition therapy at Easter Seals.

Since he is unable to communicate verbally, Easter Seals is teaching Quinn to use sign language and an assistive technology device customized for him.  He also is working on being able to dress and feed himself and recently mastered walking with the aid of a walker.

Quinn’s father, Derek, said he is impressed at the extent that Easter Seals goes to support his son and family, which includes Quinn's older sisters, Grace, 10, and Vivian, 8.

“They’re an amazing resource,” he said. “It’s quite a thing to have advocates for your child, other than yourself. It’s pretty neat to see.”

Derek will speak at the 27th Annual Golf Invitational: Fore the Kids, which will be held on June 16 at Edgewood Valley Country Club in LaGrange.

The day includes lunch, dinner, a cocktail reception and assorted games, contests and prizes.  One of the lead sponsor for the Invitational is Oak Brook based Molto Capital LLC.
