There's no denying it.  Being a grandparent is unbelievably cool.  I knew prior to our grandbabies entering our lives, that Marilyn and I were going to enjoy grandparenting.  But I never fathomed just how much  we would enjoy it!  You definitely have to experience it for yourself to fully comprehend.

I have been surprised though, by how much we still worry.  We had thought incorrectly (and somewhat naively) that the days of heavy duty worrying were behind us.  You know ... the  "you can send them home" theory?  Oh man, were we wrong!  Concerns and worry are still there in full force.

And that worry didn't just start at each baby's birth.  It started prior to it, during our daughter-in-laws' pregnancies.

One of the things my wife and I worried about while each daughter-in-law was pregnant, was their driving.  We had friends that had told us their girls had abandoned seatbelts when their tummies got big. Especially for one daughter-in-law, wearing seatbelts got pretty uncomfortable.  But thankfully, both of our girls continued to wear their belts during their entire pregnancies, protecting themselves and our unborn grandchildren.

As each girl's pregnancy progressed, attention was turned towards child car safety seats.  Which one was best .. safest?  Which should we buy?  Car seats had become popular around the time we had our oldest son (the late 70's).  But  laws that governed usage  of child safety seats still didn't exist at that time and you'd often see kids bouncing around the inside of cars or sitting on their parent's lap.

Thankfully, those days are behind us.  From pregnancy ... through infancy ... all the way to adulthood, kids are now protected by either child safety seat laws or seatbelt laws.  So we researched ... and poured over the  ConsumerReports ratings  guide for info and ideas.

But it seems that even after you do all the research and care of buying  a well-rated child safety seat, dangers can still exist.  I recently read a startling statistic.  Almost a full  80% of parents or caregivers  are misusing their child safety seats. Or the seats are installed improperly!

Learning how to install and use the child safety seat your little loved one will ride in is vitally important.  That is exactly why the  Child Safety Seat Event being hosted by the Wheaton Fire and Police Departments  this September (and others like it) is so important to attend.
