We The People

Why We The People Occupy

This phrase in the Preamble of the Constitution establishes
the basis of our government’s authority.
I don’t consider myself as overly patriotic, but at times I do get choked-up when I hear these words.  What
is meant by “We the People?”

I suppose that depends on who you ask and what image that
person conjures up.  For me it is all
inclusive.  No one is excluded by age,
gender, ability, ethnicity, race, heritage, wealth, class, position or
residence.  However, unlike the Supreme Court,
I do exclude non-humans.  I consider
corporate entities to be products of the state, not people.  I think their rights are granted by the
state, whereas people have human rights that no state can deny.

As long as the Citizens United decision remains in force,
the very foundation of our government is breached.  Corporations and concentrated wealth can and
do completely subvert the will of we the real people.  This is why I have taken to the streets to
Occupy.  I don’t know why everyone who
believes in democracy isn’t equally outraged.
