TEACHERS, BRING THE AWARD-WINNING "BASS IN THE CLASS" PROGRAM TO YOUR CLASSROOM

TEACHERS, BRING THE AWARD-WINNING "BASS IN THE CLASS" PROGRAM TO YOUR CLASSROOM

Teachers, liven up your science curriculum through the hands-on aquatic biology program “Bass in the Class” from the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. Join a free training session on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to noon at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center, 3609 Spring Road in Oak Brook.
“This is one of our most popular programs with teachers and students alike,” said Keriann Dubina, a naturalist at Fullersburg Woods and the “Bass in the Class” coordinator. “It can be adapted to any grade level and offers experiences in life cycles, food chains, ecosystems and animal behavior over eight weeks in the classroom and during the release of the fish into a local waterway.”
During the training, teachers will learn how to incorporate an aquarium with live bass into the classroom. They’ll find out how to raise fish and maintain the tank, use provided curriculum on aquatic invasive species and water pollution, and prepare for the release event. The training session is free. The programs cost to individual schools varies based on their equipment and support needs.
To join “Bass in the Class” training, register by April 24 by calling the center at 630-850-8110.
The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s five education centers offer dozens of opportunities for classroom projects, field trips and more. For more information, visit dupageforest.org, and click on “Things to Do” and “Teachers and Scouts” to access the comprehensive teachers guide.
