NOW ACCEPTING ORDERS FOR NATIVE-PLANT SALE IN MAY

NOW ACCEPTING ORDERS FOR NATIVE-PLANT SALE IN MAY

Looking for an ecofriendly addition to your home landscape? Then place your advance order now through April 26 for the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s annual native-plant sale.
The sale features over 130 species of flowers, grasses, shrubs and trees suitable for sun and shade. An order form and a catalog with photos, descriptions and prices are posted at dupageforest.org/
nativeplantsale. Proceeds from the sale support educational programming at the District.
Gardeners must pick up their orders Thursday, May 9 between noon and 6 p.m. at Mayslake Peabody Estate, 1717 W. 31st St. in Oak Brook, and pay at that time with cash, check, Visa, MasterCard or Discover. They can shop for additional plants then, too.
Gardeners who do not place advance orders can still shop for plants and get expert advice on their care during the sale Friday, May 10 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m. to
4 p.m. at Mayslake. For details on the annual native-plant sale, call 630-933-7208.
Native plants need a fraction of the care required by turf or traditional gardens. Many support pollinators such as butterflies and bees, provide seeds for birds, or feature bright colors and unusual textures. To learn how to add native plants to your garden, join “Landscaping With Native Plants” on April 20 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Mayslake Peabody Estate. The workshop is $3 per person, and registration is required by calling 630-206-9566.
