MAY 7 RIBBON CUTTING AT FULLERSBURG WOODS BRIDGE

MAY 7 RIBBON CUTTING AT FULLERSBURG WOODS BRIDGE

On Tuesday, May 7 at 1:30 p.m. the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve at 3609 Spring Road in Oak Brook to celebrate the completion of its new bridge.
The ceremony will be on the west side of Salt Creek, which attendees can reach via a trail on the southeast end of the preserve’s parking lot. Visitors with questions regarding the event should call the District’s Office of Planning at 630-871-6404.
“The construction of this bridge has been a communitywide effort, from the preservation groups who helped with its design to the generous local businessman who donated the steel beams at the heart of the structure,” says Forest Preserve District President D. “Dewey” Pierotti Jr. “It will be a great new resource for visitors as they explore one of the DuPage County’s oldest forest preserves.”
The single-span structure replaces a 1930s bridge that was damaged in a flood in August 2010. It conforms to modern construction standards while including historic visual elements such as limestone facing on the abutments and wood details along the steel superstructure.
The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County owns and manages 25,000 acres of prairies, woodlands and wetlands. Each year more than 4 million visitors enjoy 60 forest preserves, 145 miles of trails, five education centers and scores of programs.
