FOREST PRESERVE DISTRICT NAMED ON "100 BEST FLEETS" LIST FOR 2013

FOREST PRESERVE DISTRICT NAMED ON "100 BEST FLEETS" LIST FOR 2013

For the second year in a row, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County has been recognized as one of Government Fleet magazine’s 100 Best Fleets. The program honors top public-sector fleets in North America among the 38,000 registered at the municipal, county, state and federal levels.
The District’s fleet is distinct in the variety of vehicles it contains and its focus on alternative fuels. In-house crews maintain not only standard passenger vehicles but also specialized equipment such as mowers for the District’s golf courses and tractors used during habitat restoration. Additionally, nearly all vehicles utilize hybrid technology or run on alternative fuels such as compressed natural gas, liquid propane gas, E-85 and biodiesel. The use of these alternatives has lowered fuel expenditures, reduced tailpipe emissions and lengthened vehicle lifespans.
Fleet rankings are based on the use of technology, creativity to address challenges within the operation, staff development, best practices and resource stewardship. Agencies are evaluated by managers of recently top-ranked fleets. The District will be among the 100 best at the Government Fleet Expo and Conference June 10 – 12 in San Antonio, where the detailed rankings will be revealed.
The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County owns and manages 25,000 acres of prairies, woodlands and wetlands. Each year more than 4 million visitors enjoy 60 forest preserves, 145 miles of trails, five education centers and scores of programs.
