FOREST PRESERVE DISTRICT HOSTS NATIVE-PLANT SALE MAY 10 AND 11

FOREST PRESERVE DISTRICT HOSTS NATIVE-PLANT SALE MAY 10 AND 11

Purchase some ecofriendly additions to your landscape at the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s native-plant sale on Friday, May 10 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mayslake Peabody Estate, 1717 W. 31st Street in Oak Brook.
The sale will feature more than 100 species of flowers, grasses, ferns, shrubs and trees for sunny, shady, wet or dry conditions, and proceeds will support educational programs at the District. The catalog is online at dupageforest.org/nativeplantsale, but gardeners can also call 630-933-7208 for details.
“Whether gardeners are starting from scratch or adding to existing plantings, we’ll have naturalists on hand to help them make the best choices for any setting,” says sales coordinator Marcy Rogge, who works in the District’s Office of Education.
This year’s sale includes a focus on pollinators. “Hummingbirds, butterflies, bees and other small creatures help plants everywhere produce fruits and seeds,” explains Rogge, “and many of the colorful native plants that attract these pollinators offer great low-maintenance additions to any garden.”
The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County owns and manages 25,000 acres of prairies, woodlands and wetlands. Each year more than 4 million visitors enjoy 60 forest preserves, 145 miles of trails, five education centers and scores of programs.
