DISTRICT AWARDED $5,000 GRANT TO ENHANCE RECREATION PROGRAMS

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County has received a grant of $5,000 from FORWARD, a public-private partnership working to create sustainable changes to reverse the obesity trend among children in DuPage County.
      The funds will expand and enhance some of the District’s active outdoor programs through the purchase of archery and fishing equipment and three new kayaks. Staff members also plan to provide healthy snacks during some programs and offer a new outdoor cooking clinic featuring lighter fare.
      “Archery, fishing and boating are some of the most popular outdoor recreational activities throughout the forest preserves, and our staff is always looking to introduce more people to these active pursuits that they can enjoy so close to home,” says Jay Johnson, a District manager of site operations and the coordinator of the grant. 
      The District offers hundreds of outdoor programs each year for adults, kids and families, and most are free or have nominal fees.
