CELEBRATE MEMORIAL DAY DURING HISTORICAL CEREMONY AT KLINE CREEK FARM

CELEBRATE MEMORIAL DAY DURING HISTORICAL CEREMONY AT KLINE CREEK FARM

Experience the history and tradition of honoring fallen soldiers during “Memorial Day Remembered” on Monday, May 27 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Kline Creek Farm, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s 1890s living-history farm in West Chicago.
The program, which is co-hosted by the Center for History in Wheaton, will include songs and speeches during a ceremony reminiscent of those of the 1890s.
“Memorial Day Remembered” is a free event, and registration is not required. Kline Creek Farm is located at 1N600 County Farm Road. For more information, call the farm at 630-876-5900.
Memorial Day originates from an earlier holiday known as Decoration Day, which communities throughout the country commemorated to honor those who perished in during the Civil War. People covered veterans’ graves with flowers, and ceremonies often included speeches by local and military dignitaries as well as recitations by schoolchildren and musical performances.
The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County owns and manages 25,000 acres of prairies, woodlands and wetlands. Each year more than 4 million visitors enjoy 60 forest preserves, 145 miles of trails, five education centers and scores of programs.
