BOY SCOUTS, EARN THE BIRD STUDY MERIT BADGE THROUGH THE FOREST PRESERVE DISTRICT OF DU PAGE COUNTY

BOY SCOUTS, EARN THE BIRD STUDY MERIT BADGE THROUGH THE FOREST PRESERVE DISTRICT OF DU PAGE COUNTY

Boy Scouts ages 11 – 17, meet the requirements for the Bird Study Merit Badge through a special two-part Forest Preserve District of DuPage County program on May 4 and 11.
Activities will include bird identification, binocular basics and bird-banding demonstrations. Experienced naturalists will lead the program and help Scouts tackle challenging requirements such as identifying 20 different species of wild birds and recognizing at least five by song alone.
Part one takes place May 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center, 3609 Spring Road in Oak Brook. Part two is May 11 from 10 a.m. to noon at Willowbrook Wildlife Center, 525 S. Park Blvd. in Glen Ellyn, during the center’s annual International Migratory Bird Day Celebration.
Prepayment of $50 per Scout is required, and Scouts must bring their signed blue cards. To register, call Fullersburg Woods at 630-850-8112.
The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County owns and manages 25,000 acres of prairies, woodlands and wetlands. Each year more than 4 million visitors enjoy 60 forest preserves, 145 miles of trails, five education centers and scores of programs.
