Used Bike Collection at DuPage UU Church

RE'CYCLE' YOUR BICYCLE AND CHANGE A LIFE

DuPage Unitarian Universalist Church will hold a used bicycle
collection on Saturday and Sunday, October 26th and 27th,
9:00 am-12 noon. Bicycles of all sizes and in any condition can be brought to the
church, 1828 Old Naperville Road, Naperville.

The bicycles will be donated to Working Bikes www.workingbikes.org, a
Chicago non-profit organization that distributes over 6000 bicycles annually to
international partners in Latin America and Africa and to local groups,
including homeless transition, refugee settlement and youth empowerment
programs in the Chicago area.

In developing countries, bicycles can provide access to
jobs, medical treatment, education, and even electricity, through the creation
of pedal-powered machines. “By donating a bike, you can have a major impact on
the life of a person or family in an area where access to transportation and
resources is limited,” said Rev. Emmy Lou Belcher, minister at DuPage UU
Church.

The bike collection reflects DuPage UU Church’s
commitment to environmentally responsible practices. In June, DuPage UU Church
received the Earth Flag for environmental sustainability from DuPage County and
SCARCE (School & Community Assistance with Recycling and Composting
Education) and opened a 9000-square-foot eco-friendly addition that includes a
new sanctuary with many green architectural and energy-saving features.
