RunFurShelter & The Salvation Army to Host 4th Annual 5K Walk/Run to Help Homebound Seniors Feed Their Pets

When The Salvation Army reported that homebound seniors enrolled in their Golden Diners Senior Nutrition Program were feeding their pets their own daily home delivered meals because they were having difficulty affording pet food, RunFurShelter stepped in to help. All proceeds from the race will go toward the purchase of dog and cat food and veterinary costs for the pets of these seniors. Providing them with pet food will enable Salvation Army seniors to keep their furry companions, which is key to combating loneliness and depression in the elderly.

In addition to the traditional 5K race, this year's event will also include a one-mile memory walk/run, in honor of beloved pets who have passed. Last year, RunFurShelter has raised more than $50,000 to help area animals in need.

WHEN: Sunday, May 18, 2014 1 mile race begins at 7am, 5K race begins at 8am and a fun run for kids 5-9 yrs old follows the 5K race.

WHERE: Sherman Immediate Care Center 2000 McDonald Road, South Elgin, IL 60177

TICKETS: Entry to the 5K is $35 and includes a t-shirt and timing chip. For more information or to register, visit www.runfurshelter.com or contact Event Director: Tanya Esquivel at 224-805-3722 or tanya.esquivel0711@sbcglobal.net
