Rakow Family Art
West Chicago presents “Rakow Family Art” as August’s “Featured Artists of the
Month.” An opening reception will be
held on Friday, August 1, from 6-9 PM.
This family exhibition will be an opportunity to see how artistic talent
has a characteristic genetic stamp (and one married stamp) – while that talent
is expressed in unique styles, expressions and media.
Chris Rakow
taught school for years, used art when she taught, dabbled in oils, watercolor
and photography, maintained a low profile. When her son finally challenged her
to “go public,” she entered West Chicago’s Fine Arts Fiesta, won the 2nd Place
People’s Choice Award, and the rest is history.
Chris’s husband,
Jim, is a photographer who enjoys taking photos of the common and the uncommon.
Son John makes installation art, found object
art, collage and oil pastels, and writes poetry.

Daughter-in-law
Mandy loves color riots, works in fabrics, collages and mixed media.
Granddaughter
Esther, not-quite-three-years-old, stands on tiptoes in front of her easel and
dashes off swoops and swirls of complex color.

Daughter Beth
employs the “wide world around” as her canvas, working for an event production
company. As an artist, she uses her eye
and her passion for design in exquisite floral arrangements and décor.
