Public Invited to 6th Annual Music in the Park

The 6th Annual Music in the Park

The 6th Annual Music in the Park concert will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Friday, July 12, at Memorial Park, 208 West Union Street in Wheaton. This event is free and open to the public.

The concert, hosted by the Folk-Lore Center, the City of Wheaton, the Wheaton Fine and Cultural Arts Commission and the Wheaton Park District, is a platform for musicians specializing in acoustic music. This year's artists include:
  • Chris Vallillo, a singer/songwriter and instrumentalist with an affinity for American roots music. Chris is an accomplished six-string and bottleneck slide guitarist, well-known for making the people and places of "unmetropolitan" America come to life.
  • Jacob Sweet who combines pop, rock and other soulful and soaring vocals with agile guitar playing, upholding the tradition of the great singer/songwriters, both old and new.
  • John Williams, one of the foremost players of Irish music today with five "All-Ireland" titles to his credit, playing the concertina, flute, button accordion and bodhran featuring lively Irish music at its best.
Sponsors for this event include First Trust Portfolios, Wheaton Bank & Trust Company and Farmer's Insurance--Budd Smith Agency.

The Music in the Park series was created by the Wheaton Fine and Cultural Arts Commission, a commission of the City of Wheaton, in 2007. The Commission engaged the Folk-Lore Center of Warrenville to identify and recruit top-notch musicians from around the country. The Wheaton Park District has supported the event since its inception.

Since 2007, this series has brought in talented singers/songwriters and musicians, exposing audiences to folk, blues and ethnic acoustic music that represents unique musical traditions in America.

The concert will be held at Memorial Park and, in the event of rain, will be held across the street at Gary United Methodist Church, directly east of the park. For more information, visit The Folk-Lore Center or call 630-393-1247.
