Community Corner

Lion's Club Reindeer Run

Wheaton
residents may see a flurry of reindeer and Santa look-alikes sprint by their
window on the morning of Saturday, December 7. The Wheaton Lion’s Club and the
Wheaton Park District are co-sponsoring the second annual Reindeer Run 5K, a
brisk winter fun run. This race is a great opportunity to get active and spread
a little holiday cheer during the cold Chicago winter.

The
run is organized by the Wheaton Park District and the Wheaton Lion’s Club, a
50/50 partnership of two organizations committed to the community of Wheaton.

Not
only will the proceeds benefit several wonderful causes, including the DuPage
County Historical Museum and Lion’s Club charities, but it is great for the
businesses in downtown Wheaton. Event Coordinator Dan Novak says, “It’s all
about community involvement. This event brings people to Wheaton because of its
unique appeal. And that’s a really positive thing for the organizations putting
on this event and for Wheaton businesses.”

Stephanie
Taylor, Race Director, agrees, “The best part about this race is that it
attracts runners with varying skill levels. Some of them are there for a really
competitive race. Others simply want to have a fun time dressing up and jogging
or walking through Wheaton. Either way, every participant can enjoy themselves
and have fantastic morning.” This race is CARA certified.

Pre-sale
registration is $25 and available online through www.active.com until December
3. Pre-race packet pick up will be held on Thursday, December 5 from 12pm to
8pm at the Wheaton Park District Community Center, 1777 S Blanchard, Wheaton,
IL 60189.

will be provided for the first 750 registrants. The course is a USATF-certified
course winding through downtown Wheaton. Awards will be given to overall male and
female finisher and top 3 finishers in each age division.

Runners
