Government Issue Oratorio
Government Issue is a 10-part musical anthology of World War II
and its veteran heroes. It will be performed with full orchestra, chorus, and
narrators on June 7, 2014 as a salute to our greatest generation on the 70th
anniversary of D-Day.
The oratorio is composed by Michael James Karasis, performed by the Illinois
Festival Orchestra and Elgin Choral Union under the direction of Maestro Brian
Groner, and narrated by Clifton Truman Daniel, grandson of President Harry
Truman.
The program includes: "Overture to D-Day," "Breadline"
(pre-war depression), "The Sleeping Giant" (Pearl Harbor),
"Homefront," "Fanfare to Corregidor" (South Pacific
Theater), "Ziggy's Girl (a personal story), "Incident on the
Rhine" (the European Theater), "GI Prayer" (eulogy on the death
of FDR), "Treblinka's Child," "Trojan Horse" (Flight of the
Enola Gay), "Times Square 1945" (celebration and solemnity), “God
Bless America.”
