Arthur E. Smith Mineral Collection Dedication

The world-renowned Arthur E. Smith Mineral Collection, a recent gift to Wheaton College, will be dedicated in the Department of Geology and Environmental Science.

The collection includes over 10,000 "hand" specimens and 20,000 smaller micro-mount and thumbnail specimens that will be made available to students, scholars and mineral hobbyists for study. Many specimens from the mineral collection are already on display in the Meyer Science Center Exhibit Hall. A favorite display features 200 miniature frogs carved from stones of various types and colors.

Art Smith completed his bachelor's degree in geology at Wheaton College in 1957 and went on to a successful career in the energy industry. He distinguished himself as a mineral collector, prospector and discoverer of a new species of mineral.
Free and open to the public, the dedication will be held in the Lower Level Exhibit Hall of Meyer Science Center. For more information, call 630.752.5856.
