Winter Storm Watch Issued for Tuesday; 3-6 Inches of Snow Possible

For the second time in less than a week, a winter storm is expected to bring 3 to 6 inches of snow to the Chicago area.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for DuPage County, effective Tuesday morning through evening.

The storm will begin with snow—possibly mixed with sleet–and continue heavy at times through the afternoon before tapering to lighter snow Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Snowfall totals could surpass 6 inches across the watch area, which comprises most of Northern Illinois. Most areas are expected to see between 3 and 6 inches, according to Accuweather.com.

Wind gusts up to 40 mph are possible.

Snow is likely to continue through Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

This week's forecast looks like this: 

Monday: Mostly sunny, high 39 degrees, overnight low 29
Tuesday: Snow/breezy, high 34, low 29
Wednesday: Snow likely, high 34, low 28
Thursday: 20 percent chance of snow showers, high 35, low 24
Friday: Scattered flurries, high 31, low 20
