Wheaton Public Works to Clear Storm Debris from Parkways

City crews to start hauling tree debris from Sunday's storm from Wheaton parkways on Thursday, July 5.

Since a severe on Sunday, the city’s has been working to clea roadways and addressing safety-related issues caused by the damage to trees in the community.

This effort should be completed today, July 3, the city announced Tuesday afternoon, as the Public Works Department continues to remove hanging branches over the streets and parkways; clear street corners where site obstructions exist; and address any other hazardous situations created by the storm.

Starting Thursday, July 5, Public Works crews will start a tree debris pickup program, collecting debris from city parkways.

The department will make one pass down each of the streets in Wheaton to remove the tree debris that is placed on the parkway. The City will not pick up general yard waste or other yard materials unrelated to the storm.

"It'll be a multi-week effort," City Manager Don Rose said at a council meeting Monday night.

Further, the city will hire private contractors to assist in hauling debris.

The city will not perform any work on private property. For tree damage on private property, residents should contract with private tree services for cutting and removal of private property debris.
