Wheaton Park District is Seeing Pink

The park district is planning a week's worth of events to support breast cancer awareness.

The has several events scheduled during Pink Week, Oct. 1-6, to support breast cancer awareness.

Oct. 1

The 4th Annual Lincoln Marsh Walk for Awareness is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The event is a two-mile walk through the Wheaton Park District’s Lincoln Marsh Natural Area. Registration fees are $20 for adults, $10 for children (4-14) and free for children ages 3 and under. Registration can be made one of three ways: online at wheatonparkdistrict.com or at active.com (small fee applies) or by calling 630.871.2810 to receive a paper mail/fax registration form. The first 200 registrants will receive a free T-shirt and more! Proceeds will benefit the Central DuPage Hospital Breast Health Center and Lincoln Marsh Natural Area. Parks Plus Fitness is holding a Party 4 the Cure ZUMBATHON® on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 1-3pm at the Wheaton Park District Community Center, 1777 S. Blanchard Rd., Wheaton, in Room 039/The Zone. Fee/donation may be made to Central DuPage Hospital Breast Health Center: $15 advanced registration; $25 at the door. Licensed ZUMBA® instructors will lead the two-hour, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness. There will be raffle prizes and giveaways. The first 25 to register will receive a complimentary Parks Plus Fitness Pink Week T-shirt. Complimentary child care is available during this event for all who register/donate. Enjoy a pink drink or pink appetizer at Arrowhead Restaurant and Bar, 26W151 Butterfield Rd., Wheaton, from Saturday, Oct. 1 through Thursday, Oct. 6, and $1 per item purchased from the Pink Week Menu will be donated back to the Central DuPage Hospital Breast Health Center. Sleeves (three balls per sleeve) of Nike® pink-ribbon golf balls will be sold at Arrowhead Golf, 26W151 Butterfield Rd., Wheaton, for $8 from through Thursday, Oct. 6 or while supplies last. For each sleeve sold, $3 will be donated to the Central DuPage Hospital Breast Health Center. For each Nike® golf ball sleeve purchased during this promotion, patrons will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a 16GB iPad. The winner will be drawn on Monday, Oct. 31. Through Oct. 6

From now through Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, the Wheaton Park District Community Center will hold a Pink Raffle to win a Pink Recycling Can donated by Veolia Environmental Services. Raffle tickets are $1 and can be purchased at the front desk. All proceeds will benefit the Central DuPage Hospital Breast Health Center. Patrons who visit Cosley Zoo from Saturday, Oct. 1 through Thursday, Oct. 6 will receive a free small drink from the Coyote Café Concession stand if they wear pink to the zoo. Visit with DuPage County Historical Museum staff between Saturday, Oct. 1 and Thursday, Oct. 6 and receive a pink ribbon with information about Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts of America.
