FEMA Officials Assess Flood Damage in Wheaton

City staff and FEMA team look at scope of flooding damage in the area.

From the City of Wheaton:

City of Wheaton staff members today met with a Federal Emergency Management Agency damage assessment team as FEMA gathers information regarding the scope of flooding damage in DuPage County. This visit is part of the process to determine whether federal aid will be available to residents and businesses that experienced flood damage.

Wheaton’s Public Works and Engineering departments provided FEMA officials with resident-submitted reports documenting damage, information regarding the areas hardest hit by flooding, and information on the City’s response to flooding.

While the City of Wheaton declared a state of emergency based on the extensive damage to property, buildings and vehicles, FEMA must make a countywide disaster declaration in order for residents to be eligible to apply for federal assistance.

The best source of information for residents regarding the FEMA process and for finding resources that cover flood-related issues continues to be www.dupageco.org/protectdupage.
