WINDSOR PARK BUSINESS SYMPOSIUM: PROFIT VERSUS NONPROFIT BUSINESS MOTIVES

The first speaker at Windsor Park’s business symposium “Corporations, Capitalism and Christianity,” Rick Fisk (second from left), president, Covenant Retirement Communities, chats with attendees (from left) Jack Swanson, Henry Nelson and Carol Findling. Fisk identified the difference between profit and nonprofit businesses. Both must have profits to remain viable, he said; the major difference is the use of profits. For-profit business profits benefit individuals — owners or shareholders, whereas nonprofits must benefit society. He noted that because nonprofits are tax-exempt, they are required to contribute to the public good in proportion to their tax benefit.

The second program in the four-part symposium will be Wednesday, May 21, 10 a.m., and feature Robert Lane, retired chairman and CEO of Deere & Co. He will explore “Worldwide Human Flourishing, Not Cozy Capitalism, as the Global Executive’s High Calling: Market as Means, Profit as Reflection and Compensation as By-Product.”

The lectures are free and open to the public, but reservations are required as space is limited. For more information, call 877–836-5664 or visit www.WindsorParkIllinois.org
