Orangetheory Fitness Wheaton Announces Winners of Weight Loss Challenge; Participants Lost a Collective 400 Pounds During Six-Week Challenge

Wheaton, IL – June 11, 2014 – Orangetheory Fitness (www.orangetheoryfitness.com/studio-locations/wheaton-il/), the energizing group personal training, interval fitness concept that is sweeping the nation, has motivated members of its Wheaton studio to lose a whopping 400+ pounds during it’s inaugural “Six-Week Weight Loss Challenge.” The male and female participants with the highest percentage of weight lost walked away with a total of $2,500.

Open since March 21, OTF Wheaton kicked off its grand opening with the weight loss challenge.   In a contest where everyone is a winner, the biggest winners were husband and wife, Glen Ellyn residents Mike and Pam Taylor.  Mike lost 40 pounds (14.81% of his body weight) and Pam lost more than 16 pounds, but together they earned the $2,500 grand prize, which they are putting toward a trip to Africa.   Arnie Holland of Wheaton finished second with a weight loss of 37 pounds, while his wife Carla finished in the top ten losing more than ten pounds.

Carli Chiovari also of Wheaton finished second by less than a pound to Pam Taylor.  Chiovari lost more than eight percent of her body fat and a total of 13 pounds.  A third married couple also had sensational results – Glen Ellyn residents Bob and Dana Rouse both finished third in their category’s losing a combined 33 pounds.

Overall, the top 50 percent of the WLC finishers lost an average of 17 pounds and completed 1,230 workouts.  Participants attended a minimum of three 60-minute Orangetheory Fitness sessions per week, and of the 73 who started the challenge, only 10 dropped out.  “An 86 percent completion rate is phenomenal for this type of challenge,” said Mike Kessler, owner of the Orangetheory Fitness Wheaton Studio.  “Orangetheory keeps you motivated, and is like no other workout you’ve ever seen.   It’s fun, which keeps our members coming back, and it’s results driven.  The calories burned can range from 500-1,000 per 60-minute training session.”

“I think it’s the best 60-minute workout there is,” said winner Mike Taylor.   “Not only did I lose weight, but I’ve gotten toned, I’ve lost inches and I’ve gained energy.  I love what it’s done for Pam and myself and the best part of the Orangetheory workout experience is the fun factor.  We look forward to every class!”

A results-focused workout like no other

By design, the Orangetheory workout uses heart-rate-monitored interval training and short bursts of exercise to maximize the Orange Effect – which adds extra caloric burn for up to 36 hours after the workout.  Hailed by the New York Times as an effective new plateau-busting workout, the science behind the program, excess post-exercise consumption, is proven.  After cardiovascular exercise or weight training the body continues to need oxygen at a higher rate than before the exercise began – also known as oxygen debt.  Your body continues to use oxygen and burn more calories as if you were still working out.
