Wheaton Jeweler Celebrates 100th Anniversary

City Council recognizes Stones Jewelry for its service in downtown Wheaton for the past century.

The Wheaton City Council recognized the 100th anniversary of —"a vibrant and important part of Wheaton," Mayor Mike Gresk said Monday.

The downtown staple has had four owners from two different families since Charlie Stone first opened the store at 107 Front Street in 1911. "Over the years, Stones Jewelry has forged many friendships with their customers and shared the joy of many special occasions," Gresk said.

David Petti, the current owner of Stones, stood to thank the City Council and the Wheaton community, "It is truly a privilege and honor to be a part of a great organization, especially in such a wonderful town and (to have) all of the support over the years.

"Thank you very much for this, it means a great deal to our family and all of the employees we've had over the years." Petti, who purchased the store in 1981, said.

Petti also announced Monday that Stones Jewelry will host an "old fashioned, turn-of-the-century" community picnic Saturday, Jul. 23 on Front Street. In addition to offering 100 prizes for game winners and rides, Stones will price picnic food as if it were 1911, and donate all proceeds to the Milton Township Food Pantry.

"So everyone, bring your pennies," Petti said.
