'Pet Resort' Looks to Open in Downtown Wheaton

The Planning and Zoning Board has approved the necessary changes to zoning to allow Lap of Luxury Pet Resort to open on West Liberty; the city council still must weigh in.

Lap of Luxury Pet Resort, a pet-boarding service, is seeking to open at 805 W. Liberty Drive in Wheaton if the City Council approves a necessary zoning change, the Chicago Tribune reports.

According to the paper, Palatine resident Lindsey Wollan (who is seeking to move to Wheaton personally as well) would offer pets a variety of services from play-areas to grooming, both daily (for commuters, for instance) and for longer-term stays (like vacations.)

“The whole point is offering a warm, stimulating environment for dogs to stay so their owners don't feel guilty leaving them when they go on vacation," Wollan told the paper. "As I talk to people, I think they're really excited about it."

"We think it would be a good addition," Tracy Jones, staff planner for the city's department of economic development, told the paper. "I think there's definitely a demand for it in Wheaton and it'd be a nice alternative to just boarding your pet at your vet."

The Council will discuss the proposal on June 17, the paper said.
