Five Restaurants Offer Music to Dine For

Here's a look at five restaurants in Wheaton that offer live music.

A collection of eateries offering live entertainment are within walking distance of each other in downtown Wheaton. At the intersection of West Front and North Hale, you can pick a place not only based on the kind of music you like, but also your favorite cuisine.

Muldoon's (133 W. Front St.):

For (very good) pub grub and irish music mid-week, Muldoon's is a ripping good time, with performances on Tuesday nights.  It's a brightly lit spot that was "designed to replicate the authentic feel and warmth" of a classic Irish pub. The neighborhood ambiance brings patrons ranging in age from around 30-50. On Tuesday nights, the Irish Sessions, perform from 7-10 p.m. They played three long sets with songs accompanied by the fiddle, guitar and percussion. Muldoon's is known for its English Stilton Burger ($9). Other items were similar in price. The fried calamari and lamb chop appetizers came in a generous portion for $10.

The Ivy Restaurant (120 N. Hale St.):

Built as a chapel in 1928, the Ivy offers an entirely different experience with its rich architectural features and elegant dining area. The food is also a bit pricey. Yet Ivy is doable if you opt for sharing appetizers rather than a full entree. On Wednesday, one of Ivy's performance nights, martinis are half-price. Large appetizers such as the Almond Brie, Beef Carpaccio or the Butternut Ravioli, range in price from $10.25 - $15.95.  The music is eclectic and not at all genre-specific. Same goes for the artists, who perform outside in the ivy-covered patio-garden. You'll be able to enjoy music that ranges from easy-listening pop, to mild jazz, to folk. Performances are Wednesday and Friday nights, 7:30 - 10:30pm.

Suzette's Creperie (211 W. Front St.):

Suzette's Creperie is a French-style Bistro/Wine Bar/Bakery, great for someone missing their Parisian experience, or just wanting to have a taste of one. It's an inviting and small cafe that reflects the European countryside with its rustic decorations, checkered tablecloths, lace curtains, and torchiere lamps. The music: strictly jazz. Performances are Friday nights, 7pm - 10pm.

The Bank Restaurant (121 W. Front St.):

The Bank sports a definite 19th-early-20th-century feel, complete with dark mahogany wood, 1920's style chandeliers, and old pictures of Wheaton (c. 1800s). It all works nicely and imparts an interesting feel of history. Various musicians (see website calendar for dates and times) alternate at The Bank Restaurant. Rockford's American Idol, Clayton Heinrich performs every Monday and select Saturdays in September.

Il Sogno, (100 N. Hale St.):

Il Sogno is a romantic Italian restaurant with an 'amore' atmosphere. Located on the second floor, patrons sit at eye-level with the decorative street lamps visible through the arched picture widows lining the main dining area. The modern decor, tastefully kissed by a hint of Tuscany, is enchanting. Oddly, the music is neither classical, nor European easy-listening, which is what one would expect. Instead, those dining on Saturday nights (8:30 p.m.-midnight) will hear an mix of jazz, 60s-70s rock, or blues. This might make Il Sogno a great place for dessert on a Saturday night.
