Mariano's Set to Open Oct. 29 in Wheaton

Mariano's to open in Wheaton at the end of October.

The long-awaited Mariano's Fresh Market will open in Wheaton on Monday, Oct. 29, at the corner of Roosevelt and Naperville roads, according to the Mariano's website.

Mariano's will open just a few weeks after Dominick's parent company, Safeway, announced it plans to pull out of the Chicago market within the year, according to a Chicago Tribune report. The Wheaton- and Glen Ellyn-area Dominick's locations are at 91 Danada Square East in Wheaton, 880 Roosevelt Rd. in Glen Ellyn and 560 Schmale Rd. in Carol Stream.

The store has been in the works since 2011, when Bradford Equities, LLC bought the old Hubble Middle School site from Community Unit School District 200 for $5,000,200. They sold part of the site to the Wheaton Park District for $3 million. The park district will keep the building's gyms and develop a park to serve as a "gateway" to downtown Wheaton.
