How did the business come to be?
Suburban Music was opened in Wheaton by Carl Perri (founder of Perry's Music) in 1998. Paul Rodriguez began teaching guitar lessons at Suburban Music in September of 2000, teaching just 14 students each week, when the store had only five instructors. In April of 2012, Paul bought the store from Carl's daughter, Kim Morales. Suburban Music now has 11 instructors, teaching over 200 lessons each week.
Why did you choose the area you did?
Suburban Music is conveniently located in downtown Wheaton, situated near the train, in the middle of the north & south sides of town. We are within walking/biking distance to several schools, making it easy for our music students to get to their lessons after school. Students of Suburban Music and their families enjoy our location near to coffee shops, restaurants, the Popcorn Shop & the fountain.
What does your business offer?
Suburban Music offers private music lessons and group classes taught by educated, experienced, patient & fun instructors. In addition to music lessons, Suburban Music also offers new & used instrument sales, repairs, rentals, consignments, special orders, and sheet music. Students receive 15% discount on all new merchandise in stock.
What is a fact about your business that most customers probably don’t know?
On April 1st, 2013, Suburban Music celebrated its first anniversary under new management. New owner, Paul & his wife Julia are expecting their first baby in June.
What’s your most popular product or service?
Music lessons for guitar, piano, drums, voice, violin, brass, winds, strings, ukulele & banjo. Lessons are available 6 days a week, for all skill levels, ages, abilities & musical styles
