CDH Celebrates Expansion With Weekend Event

Patients, families and friends can tour all private rooms and participate in free activities Sunday.

Although the 202 new private rooms at Central DuPage Hospital (CDH) won’t officially host their first patients until early August, the entire community can get a sneak peek at the new expansion during CDH’s free “Project Move” event and open house on Sunday, July 17.

Kicking off the day with the CDH Winfield Run at 8 a.m., CDH will offer tours of the new facility, as well as a variety of free fitness activities and art projects from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its main campus at 25 North Winfield Road. To mark the occasion, 1985 Chicago Champions Dan Hampton, Gary Fencik and Otis Wilson will be on hand to celebrate with the community and sign autographs.

Children of all ages can appreciate an outdoor exhibit of more than 100 “sneakers” made of removable biodegradable material. The sneakers were designed by CDH pediatric patients, under the direction of CDH Child Life Specialists Dora Castro-Ahillen and Trina Krischon. Others were created by art students of David Exner and Megan Dulkinys from neighboring Community High School in West Chicago. Replica sneakers also will be displayed in the windows of the new expansion.

While attending the event, guests will be invited to decorate 1,000 pairs of real sneakers CDH purchased to donate to Medical Mission Outreach, a medical equipment and supply recovery and distribution program. These pieces of practical artwork will go to children in areas where medical personnel are volunteering to work with underserved patients throughout the world.
