West Chicago Man Sentenced to 6.5 Years for Heroin Possession

The 40-year-old was arrested after a sting operation in a Carol Stream parking lot, police said.

A 40-year-old West Chicago man is headed to prison for 6.5 years after pleading guilty Thursday to felony drug charges, officials said.

Anthony Wiley, of the 300 block of Jenice Court, West Chicago, entered a blind plea of guilty to one count of unlawful possession of heroin with intent to deliver.
The plea was accepted by Judge John Kinsella, who handed down the sentence, according to a press release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.

Authorities learned that Wiley was selling crack cocaine and heroin thanks to the investigation of three different agencies, the press release said. Wiley was arrested on Feb. 22 during a sting operation where police set up an illegal drug buy.

At about 4:45 p.m. that day, authorities met Wiley at a pre-determined location in a Carol Stream parking lot to purchase the narcotics. As they approached Wiley’s vehicle, they announced that they were police and ordered Wiley out of the vehicle.

Wiley immediately locked the doors of the vehicle and started putting capsules containing an off-white substance in his mouth, the release said. The substance was later determined to be heroin. Wiley eventually unlocked the doors to the vehicle, was arrested and transported to the Carol Stream Police Department.

The agencies involved in this case were the DuPage Metropolitan Enforcement Group, the Carol Stream Police Department and the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.

"Heroin and other illegal narcotics continue to poison our children and our communities," DuPage County State's Attorney Bob Berlin said. "Drug dealers such as Mr. Wiley continue to make money off the pain and suffering of others, caring nothing for the destruction they peddle. I would like to thank DuMeg for their continuing efforts in keeping drugs off our streets and away from our children. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Jae Kwon for his outstanding work in putting this drug dealer behind bars where he belongs."

Wiley will be required to serve 50 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
