COD Tech Student Teaches Gaming Workshops

The two-part series will be held on Aug. 17 and Sept. 7 at the Glenside Public Library in Glendale Heights.

A College of DuPage student who has been involved in gaming for years has become an expert in the multi-billion dollar industry. He will share his expertise in two upcoming workshops at the Glenside Public Library in Glendale Heights.

Ray Perry is a computer information systems student at College of DuPage who has been on the leading edge of video-game development for many years, according to a news release from the library. He is also the winner of the 2012 thatConference Hackathon.

Perry will lead a two-part series on Aug. 17 and Sept. 7, which will allow participants to walk away with the “nuts and bolts” to develop their own game, the library said. The programs are free and open to all ages.

“I really hope people take advantage of these sessions because there is great demand for this skillset,” Perry said in the news release. “It important for kids in our community to learn relevant tech skills, such as game development, in order to remain competitive throughout their educational and professional careers.”

● Multiple platforms will be covered with an emphasis on PC, Mac and Linux.

Session No. 1; Aug. 17, 10 to 11:30 a.m.; A Glimpse into the Indie Scene: Learn what indie games are, discussion about the big names in the indie gaming development scene, and how to begin developing games.

Session No. 2; Sept. 7, 10 to 11:30 a.m.; Intro to Game Development: This session will delve into the nitty gritty of game development. Participants will walk away with the necessary tools to develop a game their own.
