Summer Sounds at Cantigny

Cantigny Park visitors can enjoy a free performance of acoustic music by guitarist Ted Slowik and keyboardist Rich Westrick, from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 2.

The performance is the first in the new Summer Sounds at Cantigny Park series that features musicians performing acoustic music amid the beauty of the estate’s formal gardens.

Slowik, of Joliet, has performed acoustically throughout his 30-year musical career and also plays electric and upright bass with the Downers Grove-based Big Eddy Springs Blues Band. Westrick, of LaGrange Park, plays keyboards in the Big Eddy Springs Blues Band.

Their performance will include original compositions and popular rock and blues selections by such artists as The Beatles, R.E.M. and Robert Johnson.

Summer Sounds at Cantigny Park is a new, 18-week series in which musicians will be positioned in various garden locations from 5 to 7 pm every Thursday evening beginning June 2 and continuing through September.

“This is all about enhancing the summer garden experience for our guests,” said Laura Evans, Cantigny Park director of visitor services. “We think the music will make a good thing even better and attract more people to the park, maybe for a picnic dinner or just a stroll.”

Evans noted that Cantigny’s parking fee in the summer is just $2 per vehicle after 5 p.m. There is no additional charge to enjoy the park’s 30 acres of gardens.
