Subject of Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Art Associates Spring Luncheon is Stealing Culture

Wednesday, May 16, the Abbington Banquets, located at 3S002 Route 53 in Glen Ellyn, is hosting the Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Art Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago’s spring luncheon.  The cost for guests to attend this event is $50 and they should call Sue Krause at 630-678-0484,  April 16 through April 30.  Krause is the event planner and will give guests the information needed to make a reservation.

The subject of the spring luncheon program is a thought provoking topic.  Katharyn Hanson, Ph.D. candidate in Mesopotamian archaeology at the University of Chicago, co-curator of the Oriental Institute is the guest lecturer.  The topic title is “Stealing Culture: The Looting of Iraq’s Past.”  This region of the world has produced masterpieces of architecture and art over thousands of years.  Why are archaeological sites and museums looted?  Who profits from this plunder?  What had been done to stop looting? What can we do in the future?  The program for the afternoon will educate guests and members about this serious problem that exists between countries and cultures.
