Crime Pays - The Price of Imprisonment

There are approximately 2.5 million people incarcerated in America today. That is, with 5% of the world’s population,
America can boast about housing 25% of the world’s prisoners. Of the people released from prison, 51.1% will re-offend within three years of release creating a cycle that is steadily increasing, therefore, placing a larger financial burden on the taxpayer. The need for effective rehabilitation programs is apparent, yet rehabilitation of offenders is often viewed as hopeless and not worth the effort or the financial investment. Susan Neustrom, Ed.D, Executive Director of JUST of DuPage will present some alarming facts about imprisonment and share what is occurring in the DuPage County Jail to help inmates beat the odds, make positive changes, and create a safer
community.
