Contest at DuPage Art League Invites "Artist's Choice" Entries

Wheaton resident Leonard Fumarolo won both the August and September contests with his transparent watercolor paintings.

The DuPage Art League's monthly contest for September was themed, "Artist's Choice." The winner, Leonard Fumarolo, chose to submit a transparent watercolor painting entitled, "Watercolor Knowledge."

Fumarolo is a Wheaton resident and member of the Transparent Watercolor Society of America. After working in advertising for 35 years, he said he tends to use a lot of hand-lettering in his work. The piece that won him August's contest had lettering as well, he said.

Out of 15 total awards, two pieces received "Special Merit" recognition, including "Welcome to the Poe House," by Joe Eddy Brown and "Inner Beauty," by Peter Young. Brown's piece is made of found objects, and Young's is a photograph.

The October contest is themed "Fall for it." Fumarolo said that all entries will be in the gallery during the last week of September and judging will take place over that weekend.
