Wheaton Rep. Ives Hosts First 'Kids Boot Camp' at Cantigny

Ives, an Army veteran, based the health-and-fitness event on programs she put her own kids through.

Illinois state Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) launched her inaugural “kids’ boot camp” in Wheaton’s Cantigny Park on Tuesday, a one-day free fitness event that Ives hopes will become an annual staple, the Daily Herald reports.

According to the paper, Ives, an Army veteran, based the program on what she did with her kids in their backyard: a combination of obstacle courses and climbing walls, push-ups and sit-ups, and health education.

"I'm really excited about this event," she told the paper on Tuesday. "It's something I started doing just as a mom. Having been in the military, I knew my kids loved fitness and they loved to do it in a fun and exciting way.
