Glen Ellyn/Wheaton CROP Hunger Walk

The 2012 Glen Ellyn/Wheaton CROP Hunger Walk kicks off at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6 from Gary United Methodist Church, 224 N. Main St. at Seminary Ave. in Wheaton. This local CROP Hunger walk has taken place annually since 1985.

Those walking can choose a six-mile route or a stroller-friendly three-mile route. Registration is at 1 p.m.

Last year, 14 local groups, including churches and mosques, raised more than $28,000 to support local organizations and the ministry of Church World Service. Local organizations which benefit from the CROP walk include the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry, the Peoples Resource Center, the Interfaith Food Pantry and the Glen Ellyn Senior Service Center.

Church World Service includes 36 Christian groups working in the U.S. and around the world in the fight against hunger and poverty, and in the promotion of peace and justice. Last year, Church World Service raised over $25 million through walks. There are hunger projects in South America, Asia and the Middle-East.

Donations can be made online at www.churchworldservice.org. Online donations made before April 30 will be matched by the Feinstein Foundation. Donations can also be made through participating churches.
