Dodgeball Tournament Held in Memory of Wheaton Boy Who Died of Brain Cancer
A dodgeball tournament was held last week to remember the Longfellow Elementary School student who died of brain cancer last May, according to media reports.
Classmates and friends of an 11-year-old Longfellow Elementary School student who lost his battle with cancer last May gathered last week to remember Ross MacNeill and raise money for pediatric brain cancer during the second annual Dodgeball Madness Tournament Fundraiser, according to Suburban Life Publications.
The tournament was held last Thursday and Friday at Franklin Middle School and proceeds went to the Ross K. MacNeill Foundation to end pediatric cancer, according to the foundation's website.
More than 50 teams signed up for with $4,000 in entrance fees and raffle prize collections donated to the foundation, according to Suburban Life Publications.
Kim MacNeill, Ross's mother, said her son asked his family to make sure they did everything they could to make sure no other kid "went through what he went through," according to a Daily Herald article.

The foundation's mission is to help fund and "accelerate research for pediatric brain cancer," and also provide "help for the homeless, which was important to Ross," according to the Daily Herald.
Ross died in 2013. Ross, a devoted hockey player and Chicago Blackhawks fan, is remembered as a boy who lived his life with joy, strength, courage and selflessness, according to Ross K. MacNeill Foundation's website.
