Ceremonies in Wheaton to Honor Vets

Today is Veterans Day, a day the nation pauses to honor the sacrifices of the men and women who stand ready to make the “ultimate sacrifice,” putting their lives on the line to preserve our nation’s freedoms.


Earlier this month, Mayor Michael Gresk presented a proclamation to Tom Mouhelis of VFW Post 2164 honoring Veterans Day, according to the city’s website. The proclamation thanks those who have sacrificed for this nation by serving in the armed forces. The proclamation also encourages residents to honor and support veterans.


Veterans Days activities are planned this afternoon and this evening at Wheaton College and at Cantigny Park and the First Division Museum:

4 to 6 p.m. at Wheaton College: ROTC Commemoration Walk and Reception in Coray Gymnasium, 421 Chase St.


5 to 9 p.m. at Cantigny Park: Luminaria, and the Veterans Voices presentation from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission and parking are complimentary for this event. At sunset, the park will light about 1,518 luminary candles, placed on the Cantigny Parade Field and along walkways, according to the park’s website. This is the sixth year for Cantigny’s massive luminary tribute.
