UTI and Neil Tjin Team Up for One-of-a-Kind Event

Customization was the name of the game as the Torque Meet Tour, one of the best car shows currently touring the country, made its way to the Glendale Heights campus of Universal Technical Institute. The event featured Neil Tjin, one of the automotive industry's most diverse and influential designers, and featured approximately 500 cars before 1800 fans.

Hundreds of customized cars and trucks rolled into the campus on a sunny Saturday afternoon from top recognizable brands including Ferrari, Lotus, Lamborghini, Ford, Honda, and Toyota. Additionally, special guests including Pat Smage, trials rider featured on America’s Got Talent, El Toro Loco and Lucas Oil Monster Truck, entertained curious and enthused spectators.

One of the highlights was Tjin and his Tjin Edition Roadshow, who partnered with UTI in bringing Torque Meet Tour to the public. Tjin has designed and built more than sixty high-profile vehicles on various platforms including Hondas, Acuras, Nissans, Volvos and everything in between. He also designed and built a Hot Import Nights "Best of Show" award winning Nissan 240SX; is the Executive Editor of Hot Compacts and Imports Magazine (HCI Magazine) and B-Scene Magazine; as well as the recipient of the 2004 NCCA Industry Leader of the Year and 2005 SEMA Sport Compact Council (SCC) Person of the Year.

“Customizing cars is the way auto enthusiasts showcase their technical skills,” said Julie Mueller, campus president of UTI-Glendale Heights. “These types of events are great not only for our students, but for anyone interested in a career in the automotive industry. At UTI, we equip our students with the knowledge and skills to be qualified entry-level technicians. Once they graduate they combine those skills with their passion for cars and create these unique and amazing vehicles.”
