The Public is Invited to Tune-in at The Holmstad, a Covenant Retirement Community in Batavia

– The Mighty Windsor Radio Players recreated an episode from the
popular, long-running radio show “Our Miss Brooks” on Friday, Oct. 18.
Presented by residents and staff of Windsor Park, a Covenant Retirement
Community, a live audience of 150-plus laughed on cue and frequently
without the cue card.
“With only two rehearsals to prepare, I
was very pleased with our production,” notes Dick Arnold, Windsor Park
resident and director of the show. “We had fun presenting it, and
judging from the audience reaction, they enjoyed our adaptation.”
fun continues on Thursday, Nov. 7 when the Mighty Windsor Radio Players
take their show on the road. The public and residents of The Holmstad,
700 W. Fabyan Parkway, Batavia are invited to watch “Board of Education
Day” in the auditorium. Show time is 6:30 p.m. and there is no cost to
This production troupe is one of the Windsor Park groups
organized by the resident-run Performing Arts Task Force. The Windsor
Park Center for Lifelong Learning plans enrichment and growth
opportunities for residents and the public under the guidance of three
resident-run task forces.
“Through this center, residents can
tap into past careers to enrich their retirement,” explains Jim Steere,
director of community services for Windsor Park. “They can also pursue
new opportunities – activities they’ve been interested in but couldn’t
engage in before retirement.”
Dick Arnold, director for the
Mighty Windsor Radio Players is one of these retirees utilizing skills
learned during their careers. Arnold has a bachelor’s degree in theater
from the University of Iowa and a doctorate in theater from Northwestern
University. He has taught at the university level throughout his career
and still does consulting work.
Other members of the cast
include Jud Miner as the announcer, Grace Bradley as Mrs. Davis, Betty
Muchow as Connie Brooks, and staff member Dan Riley as Walter Denton.
Also Gary Schmitt as Stretch Snodgrass, Glenn Heck as Osgood Conklin,
Bill Taetzsch as Phillip Boynton, staff member Hannah Detig as Harriet
Conklin, and Richard Major as Mr. Stone. Ginnie Heck played the musical
interludes on the organ, and Dick Arnold was in charge of sound effects.
